Wind Turbine Towers
Mabey Bridge entered the renewable energy market in 2010 with a £38m investment into a state of the art manufacturing facility dedicated to the fabrication of wind turbine towers, monopiles and other tubular steelwork for the UK’s wind energy industry.
The production of wind turbine towers from the new custom designed facility combines Mabey Bridge’s long heritage in structural steelwork with one of the strongest growth sectors in Europe, complementing our existing competencies, and enhancing Mabey Bridge’s reputation as a global leader in cutting-edge steelwork fabrication.
Formally opened by Charles Hendry, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, the 33,000m2 Newhouse facility features 24/7 capability and is able to deliver up to 100 wind turbine towers a year. The factory has provided a boost to the local economy and supply chain, creating over 240 new skilled jobs.
With our first wind turbine tower project erected for Repower Systems AG in November 2011, Mabey Bridge has now established itself in the renewables market, serving a number of major OEMs across the industry, and increasing the level of UK manufactured components at many wind farms.
At the request of our customers, Mabey Bridge has now brought its skills in site erection to the market and can supply teams trained in the construction of wind farms. Please see our wind farm construction page to find out more.
